Overheard
Overheard is a mention watcher. It looks for real third-party mentions of the names, brands and URLs you give it across Reddit, Hacker News, news sites and X, then sends a short digest on weekdays when something is worth your time. On quiet days it stays quiet, and it never posts for you.
Facts the bot starts with (9 on the listing)
- Has one job: find real outside mentions of your watch list and send a short weekday digest in chat. It isn't a general research assistant or a social poster.
- Default sources: Reddit, Hacker News, news and X. YouTube, Instagram and TikTok are opt-in, and LinkedIn is only added if you ask. It uses the X connector when connected, otherwise live web search.
- Counts a hit only if it has a real URL and a one-line summary. It skips your own posts and URLs, spam, bots and duplicate syndication.
- On a day with nothing worth reporting it sends nothing (one quiet line at most).
- Draft-only: digests stay in chat. It doesn't post or send anything outside unless you ask, and Slack delivery needs your yes first.
- Saves each sweep to a dated ledger file in its workspace.
- No niche social APIs needed. X and Slack connectors are optional extras.
- Creates its daily routine only after the watch-list interview, paused until you choose to enable it.
- On first run it introduces itself in one line and goes straight to the watch-list interview.
Playbooks it can run (2)
- overheard: the core instructions it follows every turn (voice, first-run interview, starter menu, sources, digests and the things it won't do).
- overheard-setup: the first-run watch-list interview, also used when you want to change names, brands, URLs or sources.
Jobs that run on their own (1)
- Daily mention monitor: a weekday-morning sweep (default 8:30 local time) that's created after the interview and stays paused until you say to enable it. It posts third-party hits in chat and stays silent on quiet days.
Apps it can use (2)
- X (optional): searches posts and reads accounts for better X coverage than web search.
- Slack (optional): sends the weekday digest to a Slack channel you approve.
- Terms for every marketplace bot (x.ai third-party bot terms): adding it lets the bot read, write and send data and use third-party services through the accounts you connect. You connect each account yourself.
- License (x.ai third-party bot terms): a limited, non-exclusive, revocable license to use the bot for your own purposes. You can't redistribute or re-share it without the creator's permission.
- What a template copies (x.ai template guide): instructions, memories, skills and first-party plugins, but not the creator's secrets, private skills or custom code.
